4 Expert Wellness Tips for Spring

By Kate Oyston
We’re kicking off the month of May, and while we’re excited for all the warm-weather activities to come (backyard barbecues, cottage weekends, and beach days await!), it’s also a perfect time to revisit your health habits. If you lost track of your New Year’s resolutions come February, no judgment, but this may be the perfect time to dust them off and recommit. To help you start this sunny season off on the right side of the bed, Endy has partnered with wellness expert Shania Bhopa to share her top, science-backed wellness tips for spring:A woman lying on her stomach on an Endy Mattress, shielding her eyes from the sun with her arm

1. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Your body loses hydration at night, so replenishing it should be your first priority each morning. Start your day with the #WakeyGirlMocktail - a special drink Shania created in collaboration with Endy to help you get the most out of your day, every day. It’s made with coconut water for a natural source of electrolytes, pomegranate juice for antioxidants and a dash of cayenne pepper to clear morning congestion and boost metabolism. (Find the full recipe below!)

2. Start your day with sun

“Getting sun exposure within the first 30 minutes of waking up regulates your sleep-wake cycle by influencing hormone production and lowering melatonin levels. This helps you wake up, increases your energy and improves your mood, setting you up for a great day,” says Shania. It also supports your body’s internal clock: by exposing yourself to sunlight first thing in the morning, you’re synchronizing your body’s rhythms with the natural light-dark cycle, which will make it easier to fall asleep at night. So aim to get some sunshine in early! It can be as simple as enjoying your coffee (or your #WakeyGirlMocktail) on your front porch, doing some light stretching in the backyard or going for a jog around the block.A woman's face, lit by sunlight, closing her eyes and smiling

3. Move your body

Science has shown that moving your body for even just 20 minutes each morning can make a huge impact on your health. It optimizes your brain function, setting you up for a productive day. It also kick-starts your metabolism, helping with digestion and circulation. Shania recommends a quick workout or even a brisk walk early in your waking hours to set your body up for success, fuelling your day. Looking to combine this with supporting your circadian rhythm? Exercise outside to get sunlight and movement, all at once!

4. Prioritize sleep hygiene

These are those habits you know you should do, but maybe haven’t gotten around to enforcing yet. Spring is the time to do it! To ensure you have energy for all those summer adventures you’ve been missing all winter, get in the routine of getting eight hours of sleep each night now. Shania suggests leaving those screens outside of your bedroom, to keep it a space that’s dedicated to rest for optimal sleep hygiene. She reminds us, “Putting your sleep first will reap so many benefits in other areas of your life!”So there you have it! Starting your days with hydration, sunshine and movement, and ending them with healthy sleep habits, will set you up to have your best spring and summer yet.#WakeyGirl Mocktail Recipe:3/4 cup coconut water1/4 cup pomegranate juiceDash of cayenne pepperPour coconut water into a glass (with ice if desired), top with pomegranate juice, sprinkle with cayenne pepper to taste, and enjoy!
